In June 2013, Freedom Is Not Free will wind down its mission
Over the past eight years, the generosity of our supporters has allowed our organization to provide well over $1 million in direct financial assistance to combat wounded veterans and their families as they transition out of the service. Additionally, we have been able to construct and renovate facilities benefiting tens of thousands of wounded soldiers and their families from across all branches of service as they go through the rehabilitation and recovery process.

4TH ANNUAL LITTLE WARRIORS SURF CAMP
For the fourth summer in a row, Freedom Is Not Free teamed up with Surf Diva to provide two days of fun in the sun and professional surf instruction to more than 100 military children! Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors and donors, the camp was once again offered at no cost to the participants.

The Effects of Deployment on Military Families
At the end of September 2010, over 1.4 million servicemen were on active duty in the US with a further 840,000 in reserve components. This is a huge amount of the US population, over half of which have families and children. Whilst we continue to support and applaud the invaluable work and huge personal sacrifice of those in the armed forces, it can be easy to forget the effect that their work can have on their families too
A TRIBUTE TO OUR NATION'S HEROES AND THEIR FAMILIES
On 12 February 2012, the Kaleidoscope Center in Mission Viejo, CA held a special event to benefit wounded veterans and their families through Freedom Is Not Free. The family friendly event featured fantastic performances by the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing Band from Miramar, the Cal Elite Contemporary Ballet Company, and the Ice'Kateers, as well as addresses by Jay Kopelman (FINF board member, retired USMC Lt.Col), and Mission Viejo Mayor Frank Ury.
The Kaleidoscope Center generously offered to raise funds to support veterans in several ways. For every 'like' their Facebook received between 1 and 12 February, they donated $1 to Freedom Is Not Free! They also generously donated a portion of sales from the day.

REFLECTING ON 2011, PREPARING FOR 2012
The Board, Staff, and Volunteers at Freedom Is Not Free would like to take this opportunity to wish all of our supporters a Happy New Year, and to thank each and every one of you for your support in 2011. We rely on good-hearted donors such as yourself to carry out our mission of supporting wounded veterans and their families.
Besides the numerous programs that we offer to veterans and their families in the San Diego, CA area - we also provide financial assistance to combat wounded veterans across the country. We would like to take the time to share the story of one of our recent grant recipients, a brave and humble Warrant Officer named Thomas Fogger. You can read his story by clicking here.

Freedom Is Not Free is among the leading groups to help veterans with medical travel expenses:
- Non-conforming relatives need assistance with travel and lodging expenses when caring for a wounded veteran or attending the funeral of a veteran.
Freedom Is Not Free enhances the quality of life of wounded veterans:
- The purchase of specialized equipment or vehicle, or the modification of a home when the veteran requires the use of a wheelchair;
- Our donations for San Diego military families financed the construction and furnishing of an ADA-compliant beach house at Camp Pendleton.

Mission Statement
Freedom Is Not Free is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to assisting wounded service members and their families, and the families of the fallen. Freedom Is Not Free makes grants to Purple Heart recipients and their families to meet their immediate financial needs, including but not limited to, the expenses associated with medical care, travel, home modification, and paying bills. We support community projects and provide activities for wounded service members and their families.
